Police say they were called to reports a large group of youths were drinking, taking drugs and causing anti-social behaviour at a sports complex in Bolton last night.

Officers attended Eagley Sports Complex, where they say a group of people were breaching lockdown legislation.

A number of people dispersed when police arrived. Others were detained and searched, officers said.

A post on the GMP Bolton North Facebook page said: "Officers from the #BoltonNorth Neighbourhood Team have responded to a report of a large group of youths causing ASB, drinking and taking drugs at #Eagley Sports Complex.

"These youths were in breach of COVID-19 legislation and government guidance which at this time is clearly unacceptable.

"A number of the group dispersed on our arrival and others were detained, searched under the misuse of drugs act and further action will be taken with the support of our partners / Bolton Council ASB Team.

"We will be stepping up patrols in the locality in the coming days to tackle this issue and would ask anyone with any information, or concerns to contact us on the non-emergency number 101, or via our live chat facility on the GMP website."
