THE body of a boy believed to be 14-years-old has been found following a police search in the River Irwell.

Dozens of emergency service vehicles were earlier seen rushing to the scene close to Clifton Country Park.

The teenage boy had last been seen in the River Irwell close to the park, which sits in-between Kearsley and Whitefield.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 3.30pm on Tuesday 2 June 2020, police were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a teenage boy last seen in the River Irwell near to Clifton Country Park.

"Emergency services attended alongside underwater search teams and sadly found the body of a boy – believed to be 14-years-old – in the water a short time later.


"Specialist officers are supporting the boy’s family and enquiries are ongoing.

Police had advised people to avoid the area as they searched for the boy.
