A HIGH speed police chase took place after the driver of a luxury car failed to stop for officers.

The driver of a Mercedes S500 was pursued after refusing to pull over for traffic officers on St Helens Road yesterday.

GMP Traffic said the car was "pursued at speeds over 95mph".

The driver turned into an estate and abandoned the car and fled the scene.

Police dogs were brought in to trace the driver, who was finally detained after an "extensive foot chase".

Officers say the car was seized.

The police pursuit took place just after police arrested a man when a stolen Range Rover was recovered in Bolton.

Officers say the driver was detained following a chase on foot after the vehicle was first spotted on Cow Lane in Daubhill.

The black Range Rover was reported stolen in Trafford at around 4.55pm on Tuesday, June 2, with police tracking it down just 20 minutes later.

The driver of the Range Rover made off and after a foot chase was detained just off St Helen's Road.

Last month, a‘chop shop’ was discovered by police in the same area after a van’s location tracker led them to a garage unit.
