A BOLTON author is hoping to explain the issues surrounding climate change to children in a new book.

Writer and father-of-two Richard David Lawman, of Horwich, will tackle the complex subject in This Book Is On Fire! which will also feature three real-life children taking on the starring roles.

Last year the 34-year-old, who helps run publisher WatAdventure, won acclaim for his children’s book I Want To Leave This Book! which explained Brexit through the story of animals and he is hoping for a similar reaction to his new project.

He said: “We give children the chance to become part of the books we make.

“They help us write them, illustrate them, design them and they get to star in them.

“Our mission is to inspire children to make the world a better place so we tackle big issues affecting the world like climate change, Brexit, water pollution and we give them hope in how they can be a positive difference.

“We created the Brexit book in 30 days' flat from writing to printing and only finished it the night before the Brexit deadline on October 31.

“It went everywhere and we all over the news, TV and radio - I was even in Turkish newspapers.”

David is looking for three children to star in his latest book and has launched a competition to find the lucky trio.

“We want children to send a message,” he said. “A simple slogan that can inspire a generation of children and adults all around the world to tackle climate change and do it properly.

“Once submitted, we will collect the best ideas into a shortlist and our panel of judges will select the best three.

“These children’s parents or guardians will then be contacted and we will begin the process of illustrating them in the book.

“So far we’ve involved over 10,00 children from all over the world across three interactive projects, including two published books.”

Richard is currently raising money towards the publishing and development costs of the book and is hopeful it will hit the shelves soon.

“Our book aims to strike a crucial balance between comedy and inspiration and when it comes to climate change that is a challenge,” he added.

“The aim in writing the story was not to preach, frighten, or get soppy about climate change - but to spell out reality,” he added.
