A COUNCILLOR has called for action to make sure "dangerous" roads are repaired to schedule.

Roads have subsided and large potholes have appeared across a number of roads in Kearsley, leaving them in a dangerous state.

Kearsley councillor Mark Cunningham is pursuing council directors and officers to make sure a selection of roads are repaired by the end of this summer at the latest, to avoid delays of up to a year.

Kearsley received up to £500,000 from the council to repair its worst-affected roads, along with other wards across the borough.

Cllr Cunningham said: “There are many roads in a poor state in Kearsley and unfortunately there is not enough money to do them all at once.

“I spent hours driving around with my ward councillor colleagues where we identified and prioritised the roads in need of the most repair.

“Prior to lockdown Layton Drive was the only road to be repaired, but there are five others still on the list which need to be completed during the school holidays otherwise it could be delayed for a further 12 months, which will lead to more damage and money.”

Church Road in Kearsley is of particular concern as it has two schools, St Gregory’s and St John’s Primary, but the road has been battered by lorries using the road over the last five years.

These vehicles have caused potholes to become out of control and large cracks in the kerbs which the vehicles have mounted.

Cllr Cunningham said: “Church Road has been badly damaged after five years of heavy vehicles.

“The longer the delay the more dangerous the roads will become.

“We have just had to carry out emergency repairs where the road subsided and a hole appeared at the junction of Church Road and Presto Street."
