A hungry driver who was caught doing a whopping 136ph told police he was breaking the speed limit on a cross-country dash for a BURGER.

The unnamed motorist told cops he was making a 42 mile trip from Bolton to Bradford, West Yorks., specifically to buy the meaty snack.

It came as McDonalds outlets across the country were opening their Drive-Thru restaurants as lockdown restrictions began to ease.

However he was stopped by officers in Huddersfield who caught him driving at 136mph - 66mph above the speed limit of the motorway he was travelling on.

It then transpired that he had no insurance when cops quizzed him on Tuesday.

Officers from the WYP Roads Polcing Unit tweeted: "Seized in Huddersfield for no insurance after caught travelling at 136 mph on the M62.

"Driver on his way from Bolton to Bradford for a burger.

"Believed he was using third party cover, found not to be the case."

Officers said he the driver has been reported to court.
