A DRIVER who led police on a chase around the streets of Penketh has been spared jail.

Officers attempted to pull James Traynor over as he drove his Alfa Romeo on Penketh Road in November last year.

But the 20-year-old failed to stop, continuing along Warrington Road and Widnes Road before a pursuit finally ended on Farnworth Road.

Traynor, of Chadwick Lane in Widnes, admitted dangerous driving at Warrington Magistrates Court on Friday, May 29.

He was handed a 12-month community order including 200 hours of unpaid work and banned from driving for 15 months.

The defendant was also told to pay a £95 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.

His driving licence will be endorsed, and Traynor will be required to pass an extended retest once his ban lapses.
