BLUEPRINTS have been drawn up for a new car park on the edge of Bury town centre.

Developers have earmarked a former builders merchants, at the corner of Peter Street and Walmersley Road, for the project.

Part of the wider scheme for the site, which has been vacant for some time, could eventually include a digital advertising display at one of the town's busiest junctions.

A planning agent said: "The site comprises a builder’s yard at the Moorgate junction of Walmersley Road and Peter Street, Bury.

"Site operations are generally screened from surrounding roads by a number of traditional timber framed advertising displays onto which paper-based posters are affixed.

"The site has recently become vacant the proposal is to redevelop the site for use as a pay and display car park."

Planning permission has previously been granted for a similar scheme but never implemented.

Under the plans some of the wooden hoardings would be removed, with the site being levelled and covered in fresh tarmacadam to create 50 new parking spaces.
