A DRIVER and passenger were 'lucky to have escaped with their lives' after crashing into a wall on a narrow road.
Dramatic images captured the carnage after the blue Volkswagen Golf lost control on sharp bend on Bradshaw Road in Walshaw.
The incident happened at around 3.15am this morning and saw the car plough into a driveway.
In the impact the car became wedged between two walls and was left hanging in mid-air.
Steve Wilcock, watch manager at Bury Fire Station said: "How no one is dead is surprising because of the speed at which the car had come round the corner."
Initial reports suggested that four people had been trapped in the car following the crash.
But when in emergency services arrived only two 'walking wounded' — a man and a woman — were found outside the car.
It was claimed that two others had absconded from the scene. However, thermal imaging and searches of the surrounding area were unable to trace them.
Mr Wilcock added that the car had 'slammed into the driveway of a house'.
"It was totally wedged and just hanging in the air," he said. "It was absolutely solid.
"We had to make the vehicle safe. But it was quite hard to get into the bonnet and take out the battery because it was so wedged."
The stretch of road where the car crashed is well-known for it narrowness and for an abrupt kink which requires motorists to drive slowly and carefully.
This point, at which the incident occurred, sees the roadway take two sharp turns, at almost 90 degrees, in quick succession.
Mr Wilcock said: "It's a notorious bit of road that you have to slow right down to get around.
"The incident is now subject to a police investigation to find out the exact cause."
Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more information.
