Name of pub:
Colliers Arms
Address of pub:
138 Old Lane, Chadderton, Oldham OL9 7JQ
LANDLORD’S NAME:
David Mowbray
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN THE LANDLORD FOR?
Sixteen years.
BAR STAFF NAMES:
Ellie, Chloe, Cara, Vicky, Rachael, Stephanie and Stephen.
HISTORY OF THE PUB:
The pub was used by the mining community and is over 300 years old. It was once just a terraced house and was busy with miners. It was male-dominated and a typical man’s boozer.
IS FOOD SERVED IF SO WHAT’S ON THE MENU?
Yes we have award-winning food, our food has been praised by customers and received a five star rating on Trip Advisor from many happy customers.
We do traditional, home made and locally sourced food.
IS THERE A BEER GARDEN?
Yes a huge beer garden and a children’s play area, we have invested heavily into the beer garden and childre’s play area.
DO YOU HAVE ANY DARTS/SNOOKER/POOL TEAMS?
No but we show the sports on TV!
MOST POPULAR DRINK SERVED IS:
Lagers. We were one of the first pubs in Greater Manchester to have Corona beer on tap.
People come in and see the Corona beer, it’s quite rare on tap and is usually served in bottles. That is popular.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT?
When the smoking ban came in we were in trouble. We had to revamp the pub and up our game.
DO YOU HAVE AN ENTERTAINMENT LINE UP?
Yes we have live music on as much as possible. We can’t at the moment because of the pandemic, but once we are back to normal we are a well-known live music venue.
HOW HAVE YOU HAD TO ADAPT FOLLOWING COVID TO KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS SAFE?
We have taken all of the government guidelines on board and have been following to the rules.
HAVE YOU FACED ANY CHALLENGES WITHIN THE INDUSTRY?
Yes. I would say the smoking ban was one of the worst times ever. We had a drop in custom by 50 per cent and we were so close to shutting down. It was a tough time.
That’s when I redeveloped the pub. We turned it into a family friendly venue and tailored it towards our families.
The pub has a beer garden and play area that families use well. Our home made food is delicious and that always helps!
THE BEST THING ABOUT RUNNING A PUB IS…
The community. From doctors to builders we all gather here, we are all the same and it’s a fantastic sense of community spirit.
THE WORST THING ABOUT RUNNING A PUB IS…
The long hours.
