Farnworth born actress and comedian Diane Morgan is launching her own new BBC series — staring fellow Bolton actress Maxine Peake.

The 44-year-old who has already starred in such hit series as Motherland, Ricky Gervais' Afterlife, and as Philomena Cunk in Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe, is now writing, directing and leading this new six-part comedy — titled Mandy.

Playing as leading character Mandy she is, as the BBC puts it, "a woman with dreams. Big dreams. Most of all she dreams of breeding Doberman Pinchers."

Morgan first debuted as Mandy as part of Comedy Shorts on BBC IPlayer in 2019, but is due to air as a full series this August alongside a familiar cast, with this being Morgan's first time behind the camera as well.

Morgan is supported by a number of guest stars including Westhoughton's own Maxine Peake, Tom Basden, also in Afterlife, Natalie Cassidy of Eastenders fame, and stand-up comedian Sean Lock.

Alongside them is a regular cast including Afterlife's Michelle Greenidge as Lola, who plays as Mandy's friend at the nail bar as well as Michael Spicer who rose to fame with his "The Room Next Door" Twitter videos, and Alistair Green from The Mash Report.

During the series Mandy tries to make her dreams of breeding Doberman Pinchers a reality by going on a health kick, renting out her small back room on Airbnb and attempt a series of short lived jobs in the modern gig economy.

The series will consist of six episodes, 15 minutes each in length, and will begin next month on BB2 and BBC IPlayer.
