A NEW gym is set to open in Bury town centre.

The Coach House gym will open at the Newton's of Bury co-working and office space on The Rock next month.

Spread over two stories, the gym will offer small group training, personal training sessions and weekend workshops.

It also boasts a members-only studio equipped with cardio machines, free weights and strongman kit — for a maximum of eight people at one time.

The Coach House will be open to the public, as well as co-workers and clients of Newtons.

The gym is the second launched by Jonathan 'Frenchi' Soudry, who opened Radcliffe-based The Hive — formerly CrossFit Bury — in September 2016.

Mr Soudry, who is originally from Marseille, said: “The Coach House will be a space for members to come and train whenever they like.

"We’re offering something really unique as being part of Newtons will enable workers to fit in their training, flexibly around their working hours.”

Housed in an 18th century townhouse and coaching house — from where the gym takes its name — Newton's opened in 2018, and had previously been a furniture shop.

The property and gym area have undergone extensive refurbishments, including the addition of showers, while retaining many of the building's Georgian features and exposing the original brickwork and oak beams.

Matthew Kendall, founder of Newton’s, said: “The old coach house had been neglected for a long time, nestled away behind the busy furniture shop.

"It was great to save and restore this old piece of Bury, expose some of its original features and make use of the space again.”

During lockdown Mr Soudry decided to pivot his business towards offering remote video fitness training.

He is now planning to bring a similar service to The Coach House.

Mr Soudry said: “We had an amazing response from customers who wanted to get involved in the online video training we were providing over Zoom, so we will be setting up The Coach House along the same lines.

"With our video-coaching system, members will be able to follow our video briefings and train whenever they like at any time of the day or night.

"To complement this offering, PT sessions will be available to ensure members reach their fitness goals safely and efficiently.

“We are also in talks with physiotherapists and nutritionists to broaden our offering as our aim is to help future members achieve all round health and fitness.”
