THE spread of coronavirus in lockdown areas in East Lancashire continues at a fast rate – with over 100 new cases announced in the latest figures.

Owing to technical difficulties on the Government website on Tuesday, the latest round of figures includes cases over the last 48 hours instead of the usual 24.

A total of 145 new cases were revealed across Lancashire over that period - 104 of which were in the East.

Blackburn with Darwen was once again the borough which recorded the most cases, with a new total of 1606 after 47 people tested positive for COVID-19.

Pendle recorded 22 new cases, with a total of 709, closely followed by Burnley where 18 further people tested positive for the virus. The total number of infections there now stands at 551.

In Hyndburn 13 new cases were announced, bringing the total there to 427.

Three people tested positive in Rossendale while just one did in The Ribble Valley, brining the totals there to 304 and 210 respectively.
