THERE was a four-legged queue down Tottington Road as a unique new pet cafe and bakery opened its doors for the first time.

Paws For Coffee held its grand opening on August 1 and will open to the public from this Saturday.

A crowd of canines and their owners joined the cafe for the celebrations as the ribbon was cut by the deputy mayor and mayoress of Bury and special guests.

Attendees at the launch were treated to a glass of Prosecco and a bowl of Bottom Sniffer dog beer or pawsecco for their furry friends.

Cafe owner and pet lover Karen Phillips said: “The launch went amazing and I can’t believe the level of support we received.

“We had loads of owners and their dogs of all different breeds from little chihuahuas through through to big huskies.

“We are very much looking forward to starting and we have got a fantastic team in place at Paws For Coffee.”

Mrs Phillips previously told the Bury Times that the coffee shop will aim to provide ‘something completely different’.

She described it as a cafe for pooches and other pets ‘where owners are welcome’.

Fresh dog treats and goodies will be freshly baked on site every day including ‘pup cakes’.

Another speciality are doggie friendly versions of popular biscuits, such as custard creams, bourbon creams, party rings and Jammy Dodgers.

All the bakery’s recipes have been created by Mrs Phillips and are organic, gluten free and grain free.

For owners there will be barista-made coffee as well as freshly squeezed juice, light snacks and meals.

The cafe has recently joined the Government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which offers 50 per cent off food and drink every Monday to Wednesday in August.

Paws For Coffee is open between 7.30pm and 4pm Tuesday to Friday, and 9am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Visit facebook.com/pawz4coffee/.
