128 takeaways in Bury have been given the best possible food hygiene rating in recent inspections.

The establishments, which range from pizza parlours to sandwich shops and curry houses, received a rating of 'five' after being visited by the Food Standards Agency.

This means bosses of the food businesses have complied with government standards for food safety and hygiene.

The ratings provide a basic picture of the standards of food hygiene found at the time of inspection.

One takeaway owner, Paz, at the Walmersley Chippy, said: "My whole family have business and we always do our absolute best.

"We have always been taught by my mum and dad to not do anything less than that.

"I ask the food hygiene people what to do to make things better and they always say they can't find any faults."

Paz's mum and dad run fellow five-star takeaway Home Run, while her brother makes it a clean sweep by running five-star rated The Sandwich Shop.

Sarah Entwistle, the owner at Entwistles Delicatessen, said: "Over 19 years experience has taught us that reputation is everything and food hygiene is top priority."
