THE brother of a teenager from Bury who was believed to have been found dead after a search has paid tribute to him along with hundreds of others.

Matthew Young, 17, went missing on Broad Street in the town centre at around 2.30pm on Wednesday.

Police said he failed to return home after attending college for the day and described it as being "out of character".

An appeal was launched and sadly a body was found on Thursday evening.

Officers confirmed they are not treating the death as suspicious and formal identification was set to take place.

On Facebook, Matthew's older brother Joshua paid tribute to him.

He said: "Thank you to everyone for getting in touch and sending your thoughts and showing such a deep concern for my little brother.

"Matthew left us on Wednesday evening.

"The devastating news reached us at 7pm today (Thursday) that a body had been found matching his description.

"I've lost my little brother and a bright boy that had a terrible struggle has gone away."

The post has since attracted more than 3,800 likes, been shared more than 2,000 times and more than 800 comments including heartfelt tributes.

One friend said: "I was saddened to hear about the passing of your brother.

"My condolences to you and your family at this very difficult time."

Another Facebook friend added: "So devastated for you!

"Sending all my love to you and yours at this dreadful time.

And another person said: "I'm so sorry for your loss, I didn't know your brother, I've shed tears today when I heard this dreadful news.

"Sending my love and condolences to you and your family."
