The new Lidl supermarket opened its doors to the public in Blackburn today.

The store based on Furthergate Works on St Clement Street had queues developing this morning with customers keen to get a first look inside the new building and opening week offers.

The opening times will be between 8am - 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am – 4pm on Sunday. The store has a 1,256m² sales area and features facilities an in-store bakery, longer-style tills, customer toilets and a baby changing area.

The store said during the first week of opening customers will be able to find a range deals and offers on selected products including a Yahama Keyboard (£39.99), Vileda VR One Cleaning Robot (£39.99) and an Acer Chromebook (£129.99).

The new store will be providing surplus food and customer donations to Auxilium Housing, who provide 24 hour support for individuals affected by homelessness and provide them with a meal, and Shine Charity who in partnership with Star Academies will help provide the essentials to vulnerable families and healthcare providers across the country.

The supermarket forms has created around 40 new jobs for the local community.
