Police traffic officers have had a busy night on the roads in Bolton.

At around 1.30am a VW Golf collided with several parked cars on Schofield Lane in Atherton.

The driver evaded officers and fled the scene, however, they hope that evidence in the vehicle will lead to his identification.

Police said: "We are currently awaiting recovery for this VW Golf. It collided with a series of parked cars on Schofield Lane, Atherton before the driver made off on foot.

"The deployed airbags will tell us more about his identity, we'll be in touch with him soon."

Shortly after 5am officers attended an incident on Langdon Close, Halliwell after a man was caught driving a car without a licence or insurance.

He told police that he was borrowing the vehicle to get to and from work.

Police said: "VW Golf stopped Langdon Close Bolton. Male borrowed his wife's car to get to and from work.

"Shame he didn't consider passing his driving test first or having any insurance .

"He's been reported to court for all offences."

Finally at 7am this morning, police pursued a Mitsubishi which had been spotted leaving the scene of an attempted burglary at Kermoor Avenue, Astley Bridge.

Officers caught sight of the car on Bolton Road and followed the vehicle, stopping it in Darwen.

Three people were arrested for attempted burglary and the Mitsubishi was seized on suspicion of being stolen.

Police said: "Thieves disturbed at Kermoor Avenue, Bolton. Area search for vehicle seen leaving the scene.

"Spotted by GMP and Lancashire Road Police patrol on Bolton Road, covert follow, vehicle was boxed in Darwen.

"Three arrested for attempted burglary, vehicle seized was stolen."
