A YOUNG motorist has seen his birthday present car from his mum impounded - for having no insurance.

Police say they received a complaint about a hatchback being driven inconsiderately around Simister.

And when special constables pulled over the vehicle, they were told the offending car had been a birthday present from the driver's mum.

A GMP Prestwich spokesman said: "A Birthday boy celebrating today, was out in the car his mum bought for him as a present.

"Unfortunately no-one bought insurance and his driving through Simister brought him to the attention of police following a complaint from the public."

Police confirmed that the vehicle was seized by officers and taken away on a low loader.
