TWO new eateries are starting out - giving Bury residents plenty of choice the next time a night out rolls around.

Players UK, a sports diner and burger restaurant will open its doors this week in Market Street, Bury, as part of a £500,000 project that will generate 15 to 20 new jobs.

And in Prestwich, a new diner has brought innovative meals inspired by the owner’s previous time working in Mallorca, with a range of tapas and continental dishes.

Paloma Bar and Kitchen opened late last month and has already received glowing reviews.

Players UK recently expanded its operation with a new site in Manchester city centre in September.

The chain’s interior and menu plays homage to sports from across the region. Two new venues across the region set to launch by the end of the year.

The restaurant group, which operates three sites has created a menu for Bury food lovers that includes dishes such as the ‘Hat Trick’ and ‘Penalty Kick’ burger, the ‘Man of the Match’ shake and the ‘Golden Boot’ shake, all inspired by sports phrases.

The Bury restaurant opens on October 16 with where the first 500 people through the door will receive a free burger.

Izzy Baig, one of the directors, said: “We are so excited to be launching the Players UK brand in Greater Manchester. We have been successful in developing a strong brand image in Rochdale, Cheetham Hill and Manchester City centre we are looking forward to replicating that success across the city centre and the wider GM region.”

"We opened the first store a couple of years ago in Rochdale and Quinton Fortune was there to open it for us. We wanted to get a footballer for each opening but obviously with Covid it will have to be more low-key.

“We are having massive promotions that will go on for a while though, with offers and free food. It is a really funky, contemporary and modern place.”

Paloma was influenced by owner Andy Pope’s work in Mallorca, and while initially planned as a pop-up, the venue is now a seven-day-a-week location.

Based in the Longfield Suite, the eaterie offers everything from grilled artichokes and baby squid to chorizo in cider and steak onglet.

General Manager Danny Bigg-Wither said: “Obviously this year nobody is going abroad so we decided to go all in, with the inspiration for it all coming from the previous work. We have had comments saying that it is the best food in the north and feedback so far has been really positive.”

The venue will be open on certain days for a more leisurely cake and coffee.
