A man is fighting for his life following after being hit by a car in Whitefield.

Police were called to Bury Old Road at around 7.55pm after reports a black Volkswagen Polo had collided with a pedestrian on Bury Old Road.

The 55-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The driver remained at the scene to speak with officers and no arrests have been made.

Police Constable Philip Shaw, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A man has been left in a critical condition as a result of this collision and we're working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

"Our thoughts are very much with the man's family as our enquiries progress and I would urge any witnesses to get in touch as soon as possible.

"Similarly, if you have any CCTV or dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation, please contact our team."
