GUNSHOTS were fired in the Heap Bridge area on Saturday afternoon.
Police, were called to Bury Old Road on the Bury and Heywood border just before 3pm, near a row of houses.
They said they found evidence of a potential firearms discharge.
Officers said that no one had been injured.
The road was cordoned off into the evening, with diversions put in place for motorists.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 3pm on Saturday, police were called to reports that shots had been fired on Bury Old Road.
"Officers attended and found evidence consistent with a potential firearms discharge.
"No-one was injured.
"No arrests have currently been made and enquiries are ongoing.
"Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 4668 or 101 quoting incident number 1726 of 17/10/20, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
One person who saw the police told The Bury Times: "The incident is believed to be a shooting but no one has been injured, or so I was told.
"There was a large police presence, including Tactical Aid Unit and a specialist search dog.
"The road was closed going into Heywood."
