A DISTRAUGHT parrot owner is appealing to the public after he beloved colourful pet got out of her house and flew away.

Coco, the one-year-old white-crowned Pionus, flew its nest in Heaton Fold at the weekend and has not been since.

The distinctly coloured bird would easily be recognised - and his owner is worried about his safety.

Owner, Natalie, has another parrot and two cats and is desperate to see the return of her pet, which even has its own Instagram page.

With more than 200 followers on the photo-sharing app, Natalie often posts pictures and videos of Coco.

She said that she was "absolutely devastated" after the bird got out of the back door on Sunday.

He was last seen flying around the Manchester Road, Fishpool and Redvales area.

A reward is being offered for the exotic pet's return.
