YOUNG guns from a borough rugby union side have taken it upon themselves to try and safeguard their club’s future.
Earlier this year bosses at Sedgley Park unveiled plans to create a £10,000 ‘fighting fund’ to swell the Whitefield outfit’s coffers.
Like a number of other sports clubs, the club had seen income dwindle during the pandemic and officials said their chances of securing fresh grants were doubtful.
Members of the Sedgley Tigers Under 15s side, which is managed by Colette Stevens and coached by Dan Nethercott, stepped up to the plate and organised a raffle around their training days on Sundays and Wednesdays.
A club spokesman said: “They raised £357 which is a fantastic amount .
"The boys from the team did all the selling themselves.”
Club bosses, as a fundraiser and to keep catering staff busy in lockdown, are now also offering takeaway meals including steak and ale pie, lasagne and chilli.
