COUNCIL chiefs have received a boost in its battle against coronavirus after a business made a donation of £100,000 worth of personal protection equipment (PPE).

CarePoint, which provides community based support and housing services, donated 10 pallets containing hand sanitisers, anti bacterial wipes and washable face masks.

The equipment will now be provided to staff on the front line of the response to Covid-19, including those working in care homes and social care.

The firm contacted Oldham Council after discovering it was one of the worse affected areas from the virus.

Spokesman Zeb Iqbal said: “People I know have lost loved ones due to this unprecedented pandemic and so anything we can do to help is important.

“CarePoint would like to thank Oldham Council for the unprecedented effort to keep the people of Oldham safe. We have seen at first hand the fantastic service and work that has been delivered by Oldham Council and its front-line staff.

Cllr Arooj Shah, the council’s deputy leader, said it would help them “win the battle.”

She said: “I would like to thank CarePoint for making this sizeable donation of PPE equipment. I would also like to thank Chadderton based firm DP Firth Transport who delivered the pallets. We are still in the tough battle with the Coronavirus but it is selfless donations like this that can help us win the battle so thank you.”
