A BEER firm in Bury has teamed up with a famous record sleeve designer in aid of a struggling Manchester music venue.

Beerhunter will collaborate with Brian Cannon, whose previous work includes the iconic sleeve of Oasis' debut album, Definitely Maybe, on a craft beer set with a proportion of sales going towards much-loved indie club 42s.

The nightspot, which has been part of the city's music scene for decades, is "fighting for its life" and launched a crowdfunding campaign to try and protect its future last month.

Ryan Smith, Beerhunter's managing director, said: "42s nightclub has drawn in alternative music lovers since 1990, but it’s currently at risk of closing its doors forever.

"We’re a Bury-based business, so if we can support our fellow Mancunians in any way, we will. In fact, we’ve collaborated with the brilliant Brian Cannon to ensure this club can keep uniting party-goers long into the future."

Cannon, who has also created album covers for The Verve, Suede and Ash, has designed two limited edition gift boxes which include four cans from local brewers and a glass embellished with an illustration by the designer.

For every box sold Beerhunter will donate £4.20 directly to 42s.

Cannon said: “I took the inspiration for the box designs from an iconic still from the movie The Deer Hunter, featuring Robert De Niro.

"I replaced the hunting rifle with a can of beer and a glass, as I thought there were obvious demographic crossovers.”
