THE number of people who have tested positive for Coronavirus in Oldham has risen daily, but the death figures have not gone up during this time.

The latest data released by the Office of National Statistics show that there were 137 people to test positive for the virus yesterday, which was up from 101 on the previous set of daily data.

The rise means there have been 756 people found to have Covid19 over the past seven days in the area, which is a staggering and worrying rise of 54.3 per compared with the same time period in the last week of December.

However, there were no deaths recorded from the virus on the last day, meaning the total deaths during the last week is 11 which was a decrease of two from the week before this.

The Oldham Times:

The figures mean there have been 460 people in Oldham who have died within 28 days of testing positive for Coronavirus and 520 residents of the town who have had the infection recorded as the cause of death on their death certificate.

The total of people who have tested positive during the course of the pandemic in Oldham stands at 17,425.

The UK was put into a strict lockdown this week, which is similar to the initial lockdown imposed in March last year.

The new measures come from the mutation of the virus which is more prevalent in Kent and London.

However, with the number of infections rising by 50 per cent week on week there will be fears that the new mutation has spread to the north west of England.

The new form of the virus has the possibility to increase the R rate by 0.4 but the latest figure indicates this remains at between 0.9 and 1.1 for this region.

The latest round of restrictions involve people being asked to remain at home unless they are travelling for essential work, shopping for basic necessities, meeting a support bubble where necessary, exercising with their household or support bubble or seeking medical assistance.
