FIRECREWS had to remove the roof of a vehicle on the M66 last night in order to free a casualty.

Firefighters were called to reports of a collision at around 11pm last night.

Only one vehicle was involved and it had crashed into the central reservation.

The driver was taken to hospital.

Police and the ambulance service were also in attendance.

One lane was closed on the M66 southbound from J2 in the Bury area to J3 in Radcliffe while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Crew manager Doggett said: "We attended an RTC on the M66 and a person had to be freed by removing the roof of the vehicle.

"Ambulance and police also attended, there was just once vehicle involved. It had crashed into the central reservation, the driver was taken to hospital."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.
