EMERGENCY services were called to the M66 this morning after a car and a small lorry collided at Junction 3.

At around 8am police officers and fire and ambulance crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision (RTC) between Junction 3 and Junction 2 northbound, near to Bury.

North West Motorway Police said: "M66 Junction 3 to J2 Northbound.

"Police, Fire, Ambulance and Highways on scene at the report of an RTC Live lane.

"Road blocked and Matrix set."

Fire crews remained at the scene for around an hour to clear the motorway.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just after 8am on Thursday January 14, firefighters from Ashton, Broughton, Bury and Heywood were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a small lorry at Junction 3 of the M66 Northbound.

“Working quickly, crews cleared the motorway, while one person was helped by paramedics at the scene but was not taken to hospital.

“GMFRS was at the scene for just over an hour.”
