A date has been set for the trial of a 14-year-old boy accused of the murder of a restaurant owner who was hit by his own car following a robbery.

The teenager appeared at Manchester Crown Court via video-link from a youth detention unit as his trial date was set for August 9.

The boy, wearing a face mask, blue plastic gloves and blue plastic apron over a black top, spoke only to confirm his name.

His identity cannot be reported because of his age, by court order.

He is accused of the murder of Mohammed Islam, 53, from Hyde, Tameside, who was making a food delivery in Romiley, Stockport, on Friday evening, when the incident took place.

Mr Islam was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died on Sunday afternoon.

The victim, also known as Nowab Miah, owned the Marple Spice restaurant in Marple, Stockport.

His family released a statement following the incident, saying they were “devastated beyond belief”.

The teenager is also charged with various driving offences, including causing death by dangerous driving.

He was remanded into custody at a youth detention centre until March 15, for a further plea and pre-trial preparation hearing.
