A MAN has been jailed for 12 years after raping two women in the space of a year.

Prince Chunga, 27, raped his two victims almost exactly a year apart, with the first attack taking place in a car park of Burrs Country Park on the outskirts of Bury in March 2019.

A year later, Chunga, who was convicted after a three-week trial of five counts of rape and one count of assault by penetration, struck again, sexually assaulting his victim and raping her multiple times over the course of the day at his home in Radcliffe.

At Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, Daniel Calder, prosecuting, described how Chunga, of Riverside Road, Radcliffe, met his first victim outside Venue in Bury town centre at around 4am on March 1 2019.

He offered her a lift home, but instead of driving her there, he drove to a secluded car park at the popular beauty stop.

After she repeatedly refused to have sex with him, he put his hand behind her neck and ripped down her jeans before raping her on the back seat of his car.

Chunga then drove her home before friends of the victim phoned the police who arrested him later that day.

He lied to police in interview, saying that the sex was consensual and that the victim had made previous allegations of rape against another man.

The court heard, that a year later in March 2020, while Chunga was still on bail and under investigation, he repeatedly raped a woman in his house, while a number of males were present who he would join downstairs between the offences.

Chunga's first victim attended court and read out an impact statement.

She said: "What happened that night changed my whole life. I couldn't eat or sleep and I was just so depressed.

"I don't trust anybody anymore. I used to be confident but now I am scared because of things he did to me. When I go out there has to be at least two or three people with me because I'm scared of something happening."

His second victim said: "I have nightmares about him locking me in a room and I don't like being at home on my own."

Soraya Lawrence, defending the father of two, said: "He is still a young man and has always been in employment since leaving college.

"He has a supportive and loving family and he is somebody who has been able to have relationships with women that are not in any way violent.

"There should be the opportunity for him to have a future relationship with his two children."

Sentencing Chunga, Judge John Edwards, said: "You have displayed breathtaking arrogance and sense of entitlement.

"You simply would not take 'no' for an answer and in both victims' cases showed a contemptuous disregard for their wishes.

"To all intents and purposes your first victim was abducted and raped in that secluded car park when all you had to do was take her home. But that wasn't on your agenda."
