TRIBUTES have been paid to a stalwart of Prestwich Cricket Club who died earlier this month.

Ian Wright, who died on March 14, aged 84, was a well-known figure across the local cricket scene as an administrator and groundsman.

Prestwich CC chairman, Brian Lorenzini, said: "Ian was a massive part of our club and will always be remembered for the great work he did for the Cricket Section.

"He spent many years helping Peter Cope and latterly helping me on the ground. He was also a keen member of our Cricket Committee and represented us on The North Manchester Cricket League Executive.

"His contribution to our club and me personally was so significant I cannot at this time find the words to do him justice. His whole family were a significant part of the fabric of Prestwich Cricket Club with Yvonne a regular on teas, his daughters, Julie and Nicky, both scorers and Neil, a superb member of our 1st XI for years.

"Prestwich Cricket Club prides itself at being a family club and Ian and his family are a perfect example of that belief."

Ian's funeral service will take place at East Lancashire Crematorium on Tuesday, March 23 at 1:30pm. For more details go to prestwichsport.com
