FIRE chiefs have moved to reassure people after smoke was seen rising from the East Lancashire moorland.
Ramsbottom residents say they have seen smoke on land near Rossendale School.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service say that a farmer conducted a controlled burn on land off Branford Road, Edenfield.
And they are they are there as a precaution.
Officers say that a fire engine and crew are in attendance to monitor the situation.
A spokesman said: "A fire engine and crew are in attendance to monitor the situation. This will continue until 6pm this evening."
Some thought a fire had broken out above the quarry.
