MORE than 25 pubs across Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich are in the running to be crowned Bury South's best local.

29 hostelries will fight it out to be crowned the winner of a competition devised by Bury South MP Christian Wakeford who has been encouraging constituents to nominate their favourite watering holes over the last month.

The second round of the competition has now opened with voting for Bury South’s best local pub to run from today (Monday, April 24) through to Friday, May 14, with the overall winner and runners up to be announced on Monday, May 17.

Mr Wakeford said:“I know that pubs have had an incredibly tough time over the last 12 months due to the pandemic. But it’s been wonderful to see beer gardens re-opening and the joy this has brought to so many local people. I know how much we’re all looking forward to pubs re-opening inside on May17.

“This competition is my way of recognising the hard work and significant contribution pubs make to our community.

“Whether it’s catching up with friends and neighbours or finding out what’s happening across our towns, local pubs have a huge role in community life. Pubs are a key part of our local economy here in Bury South so we must do all we can to support them, to help retain jobs and ensure our towns remain vibrant places to live.”
