McDONALD'S has provided a new bin on a popular cycling route following persistent issues with litter.

The bin at the entrance to the Roch Valley Greenway came about after the Pilsworth Road of the branch fast food restaurant was approached by a local conservation group and new Unsworth councillor for Labour, Cllr Nathan Boroda.

Simon Toft, the franchisee of the McDonald's branches in Pilsworth Road, Whitefield and Radcliffe, said: “We patrol the areas around our restaurants at least three times a day to collect all litter that has been discarded, regardless of its origin.

"When Nathan raised with me Andrew’s request for a bin on the Roch Valley Greenway I was happy to arrange it.

"We will now include this location in our daily litter patrols and continue to work closely with the Hollins Conservation Group and Nathan."

Andrew Taylor, of Hollins Conservation Group, said: “Litter has long been a problem here and I am very grateful to Nathan for his initiative and Simon for his generosity in making a start in tackling this issue. We are indebted to Nathan and Simon for their support. It goes to show that if you ask, you sometimes get!"

Cllr Boroda, added:“I am very grateful to Simon for sponsoring a new bin at the Roch Valley Greenway, which will make a big difference to tackling the problem of litter in the area. One of my top priorities is keeping our community clean and I will continue to work to do so.”
