PLANS have been submitted to Bury Council to convert a former Conservative Club into a corner shop.

The vacant Salisbury Club on Badger Street, Bury, was once a popular venue and function room but closed ahead of the Covid-19 lockdown with a number of visitors criticising its lack of drinks and dated decor.

The application proposes a new shopfront with a roller shutter.

The design and access statement reads: "The site benefits from being within an established commercial and residential community. It is within easy walking/cycling distance of a range of local services/facilities including town centre, post offices, post boxes, convenience stores, main bus routes, schools, parks and leisure facilities.

"It is therefore in need of the kind of proposed business and it is evident the site is in a highly sustainable location."

A planning application has also been lodged to convert the building into a carpet shop.
