A round up of cases heard recently in court

A DRUNKEN man who was caught in public with an open can of alcohol in breach of a criminal behaviour order has been sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. At Manchester Magistrates’ Court David Newton, aged 51, of Bolton Road, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty to committing the offence in Bury on June 21 and also admitted being drunk and disorderly in breach of the order in Ramsbottom on June 4, where he also used threatening behaviour. Newton was electronically tagged and subject to an 8pm to 6am curfew for six weeks and ordered to have treatment for alcoholism. He must also pay £213 in costs and charges.

MAGISTRATES have ordered a man to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work after he admitted defrauding a woman in Hilbaldstow, Lincolnshire on March 3 last year by telling her £250 she paid was a deposit to a window company. At Manchester Magistrates’ Court Carl Howard, aged 38, of Bankhouse Street, Bury, was ordered to pay his victim £250 in compensation plus £180 in costs and charges.

A MAN who racially harassed a police officer has been ordered to have treatment for alcohol addiction. At Wigan Magistrates’ Court John Lawrence, aged 40, of George Street, Whitefield, pleaded guilty to committing the offence against the officer in Bolton on January 21. He was ordered to pay the officer £75 in compensation, £245 in costs and charges and must participate in six months of alcohol treatment and 15 days of rehabilitation activities.

A WOMAN who damaged a window at Heather Court, Radcliffe, has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months. At Manchester Magistrates’ Court Heather McDonald, aged 55, of Bridgefield Walk, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty to committing criminal damage on January 16. She was ordered to pay £100 in compensation plus £107 in costs and charges.

A MAN who contacted a woman in breach of a restraining order on June 13 last year has been fined £100 by magistrates. Craig Deacon, aged 34, of Robin Road, Bury, pleaded guilty to committing the offence when he appeared before Manchester magistrates. He was ordered to participate in five days of rehabilitation activities and pay a £95 victim surcharge.

A MAN has been fined £660 plus £151 in costs and charges after he failed to name the driver of an Alfa Romeo to police on November 25 last year. At Manchester Magistrates’ Court the case against Paul Warner, aged 33, of St Andrews Close, Ramsbottom, was proved and six points were added to his licence.
