MORE than 30 teams of businesses and community interests suppored the 2021 Bury Hospice Charity Golf Tournament.

Teams of four, one of which included Bury North MP James Daly, engaged in a round of golf followed by a trip to the clubhouse as part of an event which has become a significant fixture for Bury Hospice’s annual fundraising calendar.

The team who won this year’s tournament was the Middleton Tigers with a score of 100 under the Stableford scoring system.

They have a connection to the hospice as their non-playing captain on the day was hospice chaplain, Rev Tim Mullins.

A runners’ up prize went to Andrew Warburton Building Services, with a score of 95.

In total, £10,188 was raised which will go towards supporting the hospice’s palliative and end-of-life care.

The Bury branch of NFU Mutual sponsored the event for the ninth time.

NFU Mutual rep Tammy Allen, said: “It was great to be involved again in this wonderful event in aid of Bury Hospice. The weather held for us and all the teams had a great day.

“But the real winner is Bury Hospice as we have managed to raise another magnificent amount of money for this vital local charity.”

Other sponsors included Tubs Direct, Panda Plumbing and Heating and the Bury Black Pudding Company.

Ron Prentice, from Tubs Direct, added: “It was great to be involved with such a worthy cause. I was really pleased to enter two teams who thoroughly enjoyed an extremely successful event, well done to the team behind it all, it was a credit to you from start to finish, definitely will be bac next year.”

Paul Lloyd, from Panda Plumbing and Heating, said: “I agreed to be part of the event and was happy to support it because of the Bury Hospice connection.

“On the day there was a great atmosphere and Bury Golf Club were tremendous hosts.
