THIS poignant photo was taken in March 1980 at Bury’s Bolton Street Station.
The opening of the town’s new rail interchange meant that within days of this picture being taken, Bolton Street would close and the last train would depart for Manchester Victoria.
The Bury-Manchester passenger line had run through the station since the line opened in 1879 and a station had been on the site ever since the railways first came to Bury in 1846. But a new integrated approach to public transport meant the end of Bolton Street.
