A HISTORIC fish and chip shop which can trace its heritage to the year Queen Victoria died is up for sale.

Toffalis is based on Burnley Road, Crawshawbooth, just to the north of Rawtenstall, and has been run by Costa Tofalis, who added the extra F to the venue's name to distinguish it from other similar businesses, and his wife since 2006, having been the site of a fish and chip shop since 1901.

Mr Tofalis has decided to sell due to ill health, with the business consisting of a dining room with seating for 26 customers, a takeaway counter and a separate food preparation area as well as a three bedroom falt, put on the market by Bury headquartered Blacks Business Brokers.

Director John Gaskell said: "Food fashions come and go but a good fish and chip shop will never be short of customers and Toffalis of Crawshawbooth is one of the best.

"This is a beautifully presented, well-equipped business which has more than a century of history behind it and a great reputation on which a new owner can build for the future.

"The property also benefits from a large duplex flat which could either provide owner’s accommodation or be rented out to generate additional income.

"Crawshawbooth is one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods in Rossendale, so the inclusion of a residential apartment is a real bonus."

The venue's history dates back at least 120 years as shown by the census taken in 1901, the year of Queen Victoria’s death, with the occupation of the property’s head of household was recorded as “chip potato dealer.”

Today, the business can be found on the ground floor of a three-storey property, with a basement currently used for storage.

Since being taken over by Mr and Mrs Tofalis 15 years ago, the restaurant says that it prides itself on the quality of the ingredients it uses, including its fish sourced from North Atlantic fisheries.

Toffalis also has its own website and maintains a presence on social media.

It is now on sale with a guide price of £349,950.
