PROMOTERS at The Met have announced a 10-day extravaganza to put Bury firmly back on the musical map.

Burrs Live will take place between Friday, August 27 and Sunday, September 5.

Head for the Hills is making a switch from its former home at Ramsbottom Cricket Club to Burrs Country Park. It will take place for the first time since 2018, as part of the spectacular.

An outing for the Happy Festival - the gathering inspired by Bury comedy legend Victoria Wood, - will also be incorporated into the event.

The Bootleg Beatles will be a standout act, on Saturday. August 28, and folk supergroup Show of Hands , with Steve Knightley and Phil Beer joined by Miranda Sykes and master percussionist Cormac Byrne, have been pencilled in for the following night.

A spokesman said: “ The inaugural Burrs Live – By The Met will be bringing a festival atmosphere to Burrs Country Park this summer with two weeks of live music, community events, family fun and artisan food in the great outdoors.”

The line-up will be joined by The Magic of Motown, capturing the heart and soul of the Seventies music phenomenon.

A partnership between The Met, Arts Council England, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Bury Council and the Bury Town of Culture Team is behind the cavalcade.

BBC Radio Lancashire presenter and Britain’s Got Talent contender Steve Royle will host the festival and will be joined by Manchester comic Rachel Fairburn and Coronation Street star and long-time Victoria Wood collaborator Sue Devaney.

The local theme is being kept going by Radcliffe’s Brightside Brewery, which will supply the drinks throughout the festivities, and an array of food vendors are being signed up to tempt punters’ tastebuds.

Head for the Hills, which has brought the likes of The Stranglers, The Proclaimers, Idlewild, Beth Orton, Sinead O’Connor, Roddy Frame, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Richard Hawley to Ramsbottom, will be back on September 3 and 4.

Further details are awaited as to the final line-up but previous outings have resulted in the event becoming a popular boutique festival.

Several sponsors have backed the Burrs Live debut, including Contained Air Solutions, estate agents Pearson Ferrier, Avoira and ISM Waste.

The Lancashire Wildlife Trust and arts collective Walk the Plank are also community partners.

For the Happy Festival, BBC Radio Lancashire presenter and Britain’s Got Talent contender Steve Royle will host and be joined by Manchester comic Rachel Fairburn and Coronation Street star and long-time Victoria Wood collaborator Sue Devaney.

The Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band, Vikki Stone and Natasha Barnes are also on the bill.
