LEADERS at Bury College are celebrating a stellar round of results.

There was a pass rate of 98 per cent pass rate for advanced level courses and more than 250 students achieved triple distinctions or above in BTECs.

Charlie Deane, college principal and chief executive, said: "Bury College is incredibly proud of all its students who have continued to adapt and progress, both academically and personally through challenging times. They are a credit to the College, themselves, their families and the wider Bury community.

“After another year of exceptional results, hundreds of students have had their hard work pay off and are on target to take up university places, and many more will be progressing into jobs and apprenticeships.

“We are committed to delivering positive futures for all our students. Students benefit from a wide range of key personal development opportunities within their studies, which provide them with vital skills for jobs as well as skills for life.

“On behalf of the Bury College Corporation and all our staff, I would like to take this opportunity to wish our students every success at university, work or further study.”

Students achieving top grades include James Garrod, who got A-levels in biology (A), chemistry (A*), psychology (A*), who will got onto study biochemistry at Manchester

The former Unsworth Academy student said: "It’s an amazing feeling to receive my results today.

"I have really enjoyed my time at college, the teachers have been excellent. I have had my subject knowledge vastly broadened."

Paige Gable, who used to attend Tottington High, got A grades in maths, biology and chemistry, will read biomedical science and said: "I’m really pleased with how well I have done in my A-levels and I am excited to progress onto university.”

For Anastasia Anastassiou, after securing A-levels in maths (A), Biology (B) and English Literature (A), a degree in human biology at Durham beckons.

She said: "I am really happy with my results; all my hard work has paid off. I have loved my time at Bury College, the teaching support has always been outstanding and I have made many life-long friends.”

Meanwhile Bethany Ahmed, formerly of St Anne's CE Academy, will pursue an integrated masters in mental health nursing and social work at Edge Hill after gaining A-levels in sociology (A*), psychology (A*) and applied criminology (A)

She added: "I am over the moon with my results. I have enjoyed my time at Bury College as the classroom has always been a safe, engaging environment that encourages the most effective learning.”

Haroon Arshad , after bagging three triple starred distinctions at BTEC Level 3 engineering , is going to Salford to study mechanical engineering.

The Abraham Moss Community School old boy said: "My time at Bury College has been great, I’ve loved the course, and my tutors have given me the help I need to progress onto higher education.”

Alex McGrath, whose triple starred distinctions were in his BTEC Level 3 business, will soon be studying business management at Bury College University Centre.

The former St Gabriel's RC High pupil said: "My course really helped me with my confidence and the tutors have been very supportive. I am excited to be progressing on to Bury College University Centre.”

Another triple-starred distinctions student, Omar Altimimi, who aced his BTEC infrastructure technician Level 3 course, is going to Manchester Met to read cyber security.

Omar, who attended Hazel Wood High, said: "I am really happy with the results I have achieved. Bury College has aided me a lot towards my future career. I have developed discipline and become more determined.”

Andrew Butterworth is going from gaining top grades in his BTEC carpentry and joinery Level 3 course to studying construction project management at UWE in Bristol.

He said: "I am really proud to have completed my course and to be progressing onto university. The tutors at Bury College have supported me every step of the way.”

And Zara Mustafa, whose three triple-starred distinctions were in BTEC applied science at Level 3, is off to Uclan to study pharmacy.

She said: "I am so happy with my results. The staff at Bury College have always supported me, allowing me to reach my potential. Bury College has improved my confidence and resilience and made me motivated for my future career.”
