It’s easy to see where the Papermakers Arms got its unusual name from when you know where it was situated.
Taken in 1975, this photo from the archive shows the pub on Church Street East, Radcliffe, literally across the road from the East Lancashire Paper Mill.
Indeed the photographer’s original caption says that the picture was taken from the outside the mill which no doubt provided the pub with plenty of custom.
