A woman has been arrested after a crash left a man with life-threatening injuries in hospital.

Police were called around 9.05pm last night to a report of a collision involving a Vauxhall Corsa on Bolton Road in the Hawkshaw area.

The car was travelling towards Turton when it hit a parked car.

A 37-year-old has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries and a 26-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving.

Police are now appealing for information about the incident from the public.

A GMP spokesman said: "It's understood that the Vauxhall was travelling westbound in the direction of Turton when it collided with a parked car on the passenger's side and proceeded to travel towards a crossing carriageway on the driver's side where the vehicle came to a stop.

"The passenger in the Vauxhall ­— a 37-year-old man ­— was taken to hospital with life-threatening head injuries and remains there in a critical condition.

"A 26-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving. She remains in custody for questioning."
