An art display made exclusively by recycled items has opened in Bury.

The Ephemera Show is now up in the side windows of the Castle Leisure Centre.

The art involves is an exhibition of Bury Art Collective and was opened by Councillor Charlotte Morris, the Bury Council leader for culture and the economy.

She snipped a ribbon of recycled bunting to mark the occasion.

She said: "This exhibition is a triumph of ingenuity in using items which would have been thrown away, to make textile art.

"The variety of ideas and high level of skills shown repay a long look and I hope to return to examine the work again more closely.

"Bury Council is pleased to be able to support this event, which is part of the Fringe of the British Textile Biennial, throughout October and in many towns in Lancashire.

Marguerite Heywood, from the Bury Art Collective, said the project encouraged individual talents to work together for a common objective.

She said: “The windows at the Castle Leisure Centre have never been used in this way before but they are ideal for a Covid safe show and with the advantage of 24 hour access.”

“The artists in the Bury Art Collective regularly devise a collaborative project which can involve any number of our members in making something together and sharing new skills as we do so.

"This project, as with others we have done, encourages individual talent while working to a common theme with similar materials.”
