An appeal has been put out by police after an elderly man was beaten and left with facial injuries.
The assault occurred on Monday December 20 at 4pm on Coronation Gardens, Radcliffe.
Police say they are aware that a large group of youths were in the area, fighting nearby at a similar time.
Sgt Irish of the Radcliffe Neighbourhood Team, has said: "If anyone is aware of who may be involted in this assault, or if anyone knows anyone linked to the related street fight, please contact Greater Manchester Police on 101, or online, quoting Log 1979-20122021.
"Information can be submitted anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting the Log number provided.
"The victim in this crime is an elderly gentleman who gives a great deal of his own time for charity and for his local community.
"I want to appeal to this same community, to share information with us, on who would commit this despicable and unprovoked crime, so close to Christmas."
