A TAXI driver was assaulted in Bury town centre yesterday, prompting police to launch an appeal and investigation.

The assault happened yesterday morning at around 4.15am outside the Natwest bank on The Rock.

An armed man threatened the taxi driver and chased him down before attacking him and leaving him with serious facial injuries.

Police are currently investigating and are encouraging the public to come forward with any information on the attacker.

A police spokesman said: "Detectives from CID are currently following up a number of lines of enquiry but are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen anything, has any information or recognises the male pictured.
