BURY Market could again be crowned as Britain’s Favourite Market yet again, after making it to the top 10 of the national competition.

More than 30,000 members of the public voted for their favourite in the first round of the competition.

Previous winners of the prestigious award have also included Shrewsbury Market and Grainger Market.

The markets which gained the most votes, will now move onto the second round of the competition, which includes mystery shopping, and a panel of industry experts who will make the final decision before the winner is revealed.

Speaking about the awards, David Preston, Chief Executive of NABMA, said: “After a very difficult time for markets, it has been fabulous to see the resurgence of public support for their local markets.

“Seeing such a wide range of markets in the Top 10 is heartening and proves that people’s passion for markets is stronger than ever.”

The winner of the highly prized award - which is part of the Great British Market Awards, and organised by NABMA (National Association of British Market Authorities) -will be announced at an event in Birmingham on Thursday 3rd February.

A range of other market winners will also be announced at the event.
