A BOLTON-based domestic abuse charity managed to raise over £4,000 last month with help from a celebrity guest.

Over the festive season volunteers gave up their time to gift wrap people’s Christmas shopping at Market Place Shopping Centre in support of Fortalice.

The cause was assisted by a special guest wrapper, former Coronation Street star and long-time supporter of Fortalice, Helen Flannagan.

The fundraiser was organised by a group of volunteers, headed up by Gene Spurr, who together, over the past 25 years, have raised over £120,000 for the charity, which supports victims of domestic abuse across Bolton.

Mrs Spurr coordinated over 100 volunteers throughout November and December to get the job done, giving up countless hours in the process.

Dr Gill Smallwood MBE, Chief Executive of Fortalice, said: “It was wonderful to see the Christmas wrapping event back this year, we are thrilled with the funds raised.

“I would like to say thank you to everyone who has donated, all of our voluntary wrappers, Market Place Shopping Centre, and special thank you to Gene for your fabulous support! Together your help is invaluable in assisting us to make a difference to the victims we work with.”
