Taken in the summer of 1977, this photo shows work beginning on constructing Woodhey Comprehensive School at Holcombe Brook.
It was expected to take two years to complete the 800-place school which would welcome its first pupils in September 1978.
The £1.25m project would see the closure of Peel Brow County Secondary School and mainly provide education for youngsters within the Ramsbottom area
